The Marine Park is an essential part of St Martin:
Created in 1998, the National Marine Park of Saint Martin covers the northern part of the French side of St Martin – St Maarten. The Marine Park is located on a plateau that runs between the islands of Anguilla, Saint Martin, and Saint Barthelemy.
The Marine Park allows the public to appreciate nature (ex., their whale-watching observatory in French Quarter). They maintain the biodiversity and the ecological functionality of the island’s protected sites and provide all of the management.
To name just a few things that the Marine Park has done… They have created the underwater trail of Pinel Island, which is dedicated to the discovery of the wildlife. They have placed permanent moorings in Pinel Island and Tintamarre for boats to use. In Cul-de-Sac, they also have scheduled a wooden discovery path (2013 development), which will provide exclusive access to the mangroves for birdwatching (100+ species!).
